Richmond Friends Meeting Library
The library of Richmond Friends Meeting provides books, Quaker periodicals, newsletters from other BYM monthly meetings, and other resources to all those who attend the meeting. The library provides materials of special interest to Friends that are not available in other local libraries or bookstores.
The
purpose of the library is to make available resources that provide:
-
Information on The Religious Society of Friends (RSF), current Quaker
issues, the history of and testimonies of RSF, and the lives of major
contributors to RSF;
-
Guidance for individuals on their spiritual journey;
-
Issues of interest to the meeting and meeting committees; and
-
Information relevant to the Religious Education Committee and parents
raising children in the Quaker tradition.
The
library also provides books for young children.
These books are often used before RE classes meet and may be checked out
by the children to read at home.
The
library provides storage space for the archives and other historical records of
the meeting; because of space limitations the library cannot provide storage
space for committees.
Materials can be checked out of the library for 2 weeks. Instructions for checking out a book are posted above the desk in the library.
The
library is in frequent use. Anyone using
the library for a meeting or RE classe is responsible for making sure that the
room is left in an orderly condition.
If
anyone has a recommendation for a book or other materials that should be in the
library, they should contact the Library Committee Clerk. The library committee does accept donations
but because of space limitations and the scope of material provided by the
library will be selective in the books they accept.
