Religious
Education Committee
For the
interest of all members and attenders, following are the goals of our Religious
Education Program:
1) To instill in our children that they are
loved individually, for themselves, by our Meeting.
2) To provide classroom experiences which embody
Quaker values.
3) To help our children develop a sense of
community with their class, the other classes, Richmond Friends Meeting, and
the greater Quaker community.
4) To help our children understand and appreciate
Quaker process and decision making, the purpose of unplanned worship, and the
value of silence in directly experiencing the Spirit.
5) To help our children see that the experience
of worship has led many Quakers to put their idealism into action in both small
and large ways in their daily lives and through programs of social action.
6) To help our children know some of the roots
and branches of Quaker history and tradition, drawing in part on the life of
Jesus and the Bible in meeting this goal.
7) To help our children understand and
appreciate the Quaker precept that there is that of God/Spirit in everyone and
that the central testimonies of equality, honesty and integrity, simplicity,
peace and appreciation of diversity flow from a central belief in the sanctity
of life.
